Qing-dynasty ‘wife training’ chair

A somewhat controversial concept now, this chair is made of ironwood and is incredibly uncomfortable to sit on having been used to teach women preparing for marriage how to properly sit on chairs in a ladylike manner. It was discovered in Bali, Taiwan in a temple supply store and is likely from the late 19th century, possibly Formosan in origin or possibly brought over from Fujian province in China.
