Tansu: ‘Japan-era Tansu’ – Dating to the Japan-era in Taiwan (1895-1945) this chest was originally used for kimono, the traditional Japanese form of clothing. It likely days to the Taisho period – 1912-1926 and has all original fittings and carrying handles. It is a rare and highly collectible example of a used but still highly decorative tansu.
Found in an old Atayal indegenous village near Wulai, south of Taipei.
