Japanese Satsuma earthenware vase. Circa mid to late 1880s. (Meiji 18-23) 日本薩摩燒陶瓶 ─ 約1880年代中後期（明治18–23年）

Early Meiji-era (1868-1912) Japanese Satsuma earthenware vase features many classic design hallmarks of the period, particularly from the late 19th century export boom around the 1880s or 1890s. Research shows this piece likely dates from the mid to late 1880s.

The vase has a classic baluster body with a bulbous midsection, tapering up into a long, slender neck. It is capped with a distinctively styled, ruffled or scalloped rim outlined with heavy gold trim.

The main motif displays a traditional figurative scene depicting several ‘bijin-ga’ (beautiful women or geisha) wearing intricately patterned, vibrant kimonos. They are situated in an outdoor landscape with foliage, a peacock, and a traditional garden backdrop.

The surrounding surfaces are densely decorated with raised enameled dot patterns known as moriage and geometric diaper-pattern bands near the neck and rim.

器身主題紋飾描繪傳統人物「美人繪 bijin-ga」，幾位女子或藝伎身著色彩鮮明、紋樣繁複的和服，置身於花木、孔雀及傳統庭園景致之中。

器身其他部分則採「盛上 moriage」技法，在瓶身堆出細密的凸起彩釉點狀紋飾，瓶頸及瓶口周圍以幾何錦地紋作為裝飾。
